Black Friday marketing ideas for small Shopify brands (2026)
Black Friday 2026 lands on Friday, November 27, with Cyber Monday on November 30. If you run a small Shopify brand, you are up against stores with ten times your ad budget, all shouting the same discount at the same people. You do not win that by shouting louder. You win it by being ready earlier, talking to the people who already like you, and giving them a reason that is not just a bigger percentage.
Here are fifteen ideas that work without a big budget, grouped by when to run them, plus a simple plan from today to Cyber Monday.
The short version
Start your list building now, warm people up with content in early November, open early access to subscribers before Friday, keep the offer simple, and send fewer, better emails. Your existing customers and email list will do more for you than any new ad.
Key dates for 2026
- Thursday, November 26: US Thanksgiving. Many brands open early access the evening before or that morning.
- Friday, November 27: Black Friday in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia.
- Monday, November 30: Cyber Monday.
- Tuesday, December 1: Giving Tuesday, a good day for a donation-linked offer.
- Saturday, December 26: Boxing Day in Canada, the UK and Australia, which is often as big as Black Friday there.
Check your shipping cut-offs too. Your last guaranteed holiday delivery date is a promotion in its own right in mid-December.
Before November 20: get the groundwork in
1. Grow the list before the noise starts
The cheapest Black Friday customer is someone already on your email or SMS list. Add an "early access" sign-up to your homepage and product pages now: "Get our Black Friday offer 24 hours before everyone else." That one line gives people a reason to sign up today.
2. Decide on one simple offer
Shoppers compare offers in seconds. "20% off everything" beats a tiered spend-more-save-more table that needs a calculator. If margins are tight, offer a free gift or a bundle instead of a deeper discount.
3. Build a bundle you can actually ship
Bundles raise order value and make your offer different from the store next door. Pair your best seller with the product people most often buy second. Check you have stock for it now, not on the 26th.
4. Fix the obvious leaks
Look at your product page on your phone. Is the price, the offer and the add-to-cart button visible without scrolling? Are reviews showing? Fixing a slow or confusing page does more than any extra ad in a week when everyone is browsing on mobile.
November 20 to 25: warm people up
5. Post the "why" before the "sale"
In the week before, post content that makes people want the product, not the discount. A founder video on why you made it, a before and after, a customer explaining how they use it. When the offer lands, they are already halfway there.
6. Tease the offer without giving it away
A countdown story, a "something is coming Thursday" post, a peek at the bundle. Teasers give your followers a reason to turn on notifications or join the early access list.
7. Ask creators for content now, not on Friday
If you work with UGC creators, get their videos in hand before the 20th so you can post or run them on the day. Our guide to finding UGC creators covers where to look if you have none yet.
8. Write your emails in one sitting
Draft the whole sequence this week, so you are not writing subject lines at midnight on Thanksgiving. A simple sequence is below.
Black Friday email ideas
You do not need ten emails. Five good ones are enough for most small brands:
- Early access (November 25 or 26). "You are in first. Here is your offer, 24 hours early."
- Black Friday morning. The offer, the bundle, one clear button. Short.
- Saturday: the story. Why you make what you make, plus the offer as a reminder. Not everyone buys on day one.
- Cyber Monday. Last call, or a small extra like free shipping for the day.
- Thank you (December 1 or 2). No offer. Thank buyers, tell them when to expect delivery, and ask non-buyers one question about what held them back.
Segment where you can. People who bought in the last 30 days should not get the same "you will love this" email as people who have never bought. If you use Klaviyo, a simple "has not purchased" condition does most of the work.
On the day: November 26 to 30
9. Open early for your list
Early access rewards the people who signed up and spreads your orders out, so your shipping and support are not swamped on one day.
10. Post at least once a day, live where you can
Short videos of orders being packed, a live unboxing, a real answer to a question in the comments. Small brands win on being human while the big ones run the same ad everywhere.
11. Pin the offer everywhere
Homepage banner, pinned post, link in bio, announcement bar, email signature. People should never have to hunt for it.
12. Reply fast
DMs and comments are buying questions over the long weekend. "Does this work for sensitive skin?" answered in ten minutes is a sale. Answered on Tuesday, it is not.
After the weekend
13. Thank and follow up
New customers are most open to a second product in the first few weeks. A "how to get the most out of it" email a week after delivery sets up the next order.
14. Ask for reviews in December
Black Friday buyers become your January reviews. Ask once they have had the product for two weeks, with a photo if possible.
15. Write down what worked
Note which email got the most orders, which post got the most saves, and which product sold out. That note is next year's plan, and it is worth more than any template.
If you have no ad budget at all
That is fine. Put your hours into the list, the email sequence, daily posting and replies. Those four things are where small brands get most of their Black Friday orders anyway. If you do run ads, keep them to retargeting people who already visited your store, and leave cold prospecting until after the holidays when costs drop.
Where Torvio fits
The hard part of Black Friday for a solo founder is not knowing the ideas. It is deciding what to do today, and having the post or email ready when it is time. That is what Kova does each morning: three specific things to ship, written for your brand, with the script or email already drafted. Save them to your Playbook, tap "Draft it for me", and tick them off as you go. If you want the paid side covered, Jenny handles retargeting and ad angles. Frequently asked questions
When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27. Cyber Monday is November 30, and US Thanksgiving is the day before Black Friday, on November 26. Boxing Day, December 26, is a big shopping day in Canada, the UK and Australia.
What is the best Black Friday marketing idea for a small brand?
Email early access for your existing list. Ask people to sign up now for your offer 24 hours before everyone else, then open it to them on November 25 or 26. Your list already knows you, so it converts far better than new traffic.
How many Black Friday emails should I send?
For most small brands, five is enough: early access, Black Friday morning, a Saturday story email, Cyber Monday, and a thank you once the weekend is over. Segment buyers from non-buyers so recent customers do not get the same pitch.
Should a small Shopify store discount for Black Friday?
Only if your margins allow it. A simple discount works, but a bundle or a free gift with purchase can protect margin and still feel like a reason to buy now. Whatever you choose, keep it simple enough to understand in one line.
